Adevnts 8th Door: Giant Baubles DIY

This is perhaps my favourite DIY of the tutorials and inspiration from studio DIY and are simple and fun to make. I love the Alice in Wonderland-esque play with size and their easy yet glamorous aesthetic.

You don’t need much (extra large balloons, card, scissors, glue and pipe cleaners) , and everything you need is easily available so it really is a perfect weekend craft.

Head over to Studio DIY for the tutorial and more inspiration. But be careful, Kelly’s blog is infectiously fun and you may never want to leave!

Advents 5th Door: Watercolour wreath tutorial & Free Printable

Since stumbling across the beautiful blog The Post Mans Knock I've been itching to share it with you. A gentle blog full of inspiration that will make you want to carve a feather and acquire an ink pot. There are tutorials and step by step guides for both watercolour and calligraphy and this perfect festive gift tag tutorial too. If you have older children this would make a really sweet craft to do together, or perhaps with a brother / sister or your own mama. A wonderful warming around-the-kitchen-table-with-a-pot-of-tea afternoon craft.

If you've not got the time to create your own there's also a free printable version that you can simply cut and address for gift tags or perhaps place settings.

Both the tutorial and free printable can be found here

Advents 4th Door : Printable Fortune Tellers

I remember making origami fortune tellers when I was little and filling them with silly jokes and dares and fortune predictions for siblings and friends. Then, introducing them to my kids and now its their 'go to' paper napkin trick. They're really good fun, simple to make and good fun coming up with silly ideas to put inside.

We found these adorable festive themed ones on a great little crafty blog and love their festive faces. There's four different styles to make; Rudolf, Father Christmas and Elf and a pretty patterned gift. The kids have loved them and were easily able to assemble them by themselves. A great craft to have on hand to busy little hands and keep them entertained.

Get the free printable and how to here

Advents 3rd Door : A Winter Wonderland

Dash through the snow on a sleigh pulled by huskies into a wintry wonderland. Behind the tall snow topped trees you discover the most friendly animals. There's a polar bear and a moose and a beautiful dear deer with magnificent antlers and a snowy white tummy.  This playful scene has become the most enchanting place of play at home this week and we think it makes a great weekend activity to make.

This little snowy scene when not being played with sits on our window sill and has become the first of our Christmas decorations. Wouldn't it make a fun centre piece for the Christmas table too.

It's simple to make, just pop over to Mr Printables for the free template and instructions.

Advents 2nd Door: Free Festive Charades Printable

The countdown to Christmas has begun and there's so much excitement in the air. The shop elves have been busy sending Christmas parcels and gifts to be wrapped to people all over the globe. Home is already in full festive spirit with the advent hung and full of surprises, mince pies in the making and Christmas cards a colouring.
Now with the afternoons feeling a little grey here in London we've taken to playing some silly indoor games. We've been scribbling down our own silly version of charades with a little festive theme. The kids have loved it so much we wanted to share it and have created it as a printable for everyone to play.

There's something quite nostalgic about charades. Or is it just me? I remember watching the grown ups play when I was a child and they'd all have fits of laughter. We'd play too, making teams if the cousins were all around. I remember how the big cousins were so clever and quick I thought they must be mind readers (or perhaps they cheated) !

Advent One for festive fun and kindness that starts at the kitchen table

Our festive advent is here…..and just in time for those who woke with a surprise that it was the First day of December today! The excitement begins...

We've made an easy FREE Advent printable for you...

It brings together some of our favourite festive ideas and activities over the last few years (some have become almost tradition) and squeezed them into 24 days of festive fun as we countdown the days until Christmas Day.

This year we’ve added a little extra too. We’ve created a whole new set of 24 acts of kindness ideas, because you can never be too kind and we think it brings out the everyday hero in all of us. Kindness creates a warm fuzzy feeling for all...try it, and feel the world spin a little happier and lighter and lovelier!

If the children are too young, then lead by example and dare yourself instead. We can inspire open hearts and open minds. Just as imagination is contagious so is kindness. Pass it on.

We’ve created numbered envelopes to print, fold and stick so you can hide each little card inside. We’ve left the cards themselves unnumbered so you can feel free to decide when to use each card.

Alternatively if your advent is already organised, hide the card(s) under their breakfast plate or bowl and let them discover a new idea each morning. See how many acts of kindness you can achieve and how many new family traditions and activities you can enjoy together.

Have fun xx

To celebrate our first day of the Christmas countdown, and as Sisters Guild tradition would go, we would like to give you 20% OFF everything in one of our favourite places, the table & kitchen!

Soor Ploom captures a nostalgic longing for simplicity

Our new love…

We have a breath of fresh air in the boutique that goes by the sweet name of Soor Ploom. Designed and made in Brooklyn, New York, this is a fresh, timeless collection of cotton and linen loveliness in the most beautiful hues.

Soor Ploom makes us dream of summer days of endless play when time is forgotten and light cooling cotton touches the skin. It is simple, understated style that the designer Marissa Buick has so talentedly created.
I really do feel that Marissa has captured some nostalgic longing in her collection.  It's as if you have opened a vintage suitcase of perfectly pressed linen clothes in the exact designs that you have pictured in your mind for your own little girl to wear! And wear them she will…

The Oona Romper has become a classic style by Soor Ploom, in ochre or blue stripes .
New is the Olive Romper in the most feminine soft clay colour and the beautiful Lois playsuit in the Liberty garden print.  Then there's the Lark, Edie and Prim Dress, the Maude playsuit and the Clova top - names that sound so vintage and adorable.  These are pieces that will be cherished for summer and last a lovingly long time for the next generations to come. Thank you Marissa!

Bobo Choses SS16 - Der Blaue Reiter

Each season Bobo Choses release a collection born with a story and characters of its own. A special, unique and meaningful collection. There are handmade illustrations alongside carefully selected materials like, textured raffia and indigo waffle, pointelle cotton and the softest denim we love. Founded in 2008 with the idea of creating a clothing brand that could speak to children in their own magical and passionate language. Bobo Choses core values are creativity, passion, honesty and always a sense of fun.

The story of the collection "Der Blaue Reiter" ( The blue rider) refers to a group of Russian and German artists united in a movement fundamental to expressionism. This group led by Kandinsky and Franz Marc shared a desire to express spiritual truths the symbolism of colour, the importance of spontaneity and intuition. It is the base of the inspiration and the story behind the SS16 collection by Bobo Choses.

The freedom of colour and expression bursts through the collection with prismatic colours and abstracted forms. A key piece of Kandinsky's work the, "blue rider" depicts a horse and rider , an apparent symbol for 'moving beyond realistic representation' and the horse a symbol or rebirth. Bobo Choses reflect this so brilliantly & playfully in the Spring collection resonating this idea with fresh spontaneous colour, vibrant imagination and playful shapes. Fauvist pears are seen alongside bohemian stripes and wonderful shapes take a Matisse-like expression whilst there are nods to Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh and of course Vasily Kandinsky and Franz Marc.

Inspiring, naturalistic, bright, colourful, and always imaginative Bobo Choses celebrate colour and  spirituality of this early movement in their, as always, intuitive way. They have once again delighted and surprised us with their latest collection, playful and imaginative and spontaneous. This is the magic of Bobo Choses. It is the brand that speaks the language children speak.

Only a little longer to wait. Der Blaue Reiter Launches 19th January at 10 am GMT
